Congratulations to Wyhan Jooste for obtaining his PhD qualification during the December ‘14 graduation ceremony!

Coetzee Uncategorized 0

In 2014 Wyhan Jooste, now Dr Wyhan Jooste, obtained his PhD qualification from the Industrial Engineering Department. We would like to congratulate him and share some of the information pertaining to his PhD. Title: A critical success factor model for asset management services Department: Department of Industrial Engineering Promoter: Prof PJ Vlok Co-promoter: Prof CSL Schutte Summary: Business-to-business services relating to physical asset management are playing an increasingly important role in industry. This is in the midst of the current pressures which organisations are experiencing in realising value from their assets. The pursuit of complying with the ISO 55000 asset management standard contributes towards the importance of these services. The problem is that there is no evidence regarding the critical success factors for collaborating successfully in asset management services. This study identifies these factors and then develops a decision support model for providing industry with access to the factors for decision-making and for improving asset management services. Congratulations once again Dr Jooste!

Gerard Ungerer’s Exchange at Bath University

Coetzee Uncategorized 0 0

Gerard Ungerer, a third year PhD student at the Department of Industrial Engineering, took part in a three month exchange program to the University of Bath, United Kingdom. Gerard visited the UK in order to conduct interviews with academics and practitioners on his topic involving the development of a framework aimed at assisting e-business start-up competitive strategy formulation. Whilst in the UK, his research was supervised by Dr Steve Cayzer, the course tutor for Innovation and Technology Management at Bath’s Department of Mechanical Engineering. Apart from the mutual insights gained, this inter-university collaboration effort also produced a co-authored journal article. Finally, upon disembarking the UK, Gerard visited Washington DC (USA) for additional interviews and further feedback on his developed framework. The University of Bath is one of the UK’s leading universities and has been voted number one for student satisfaction in the UK’s national student survey for the last two consecutive years. The university has a beautiful modern campus, a strong academic and sport culture, friendly academic staff, vibrant and enterprising students, and an impressive array of societies and social events on offer. Currently, more than 25 percent of Bath’s students come from outside the UK and represent over 100 nationalities. This research exchange was made possible by the University of Bath’s Global Partner Research Scholarship Scheme that drives their internationalization strategy.

Coetzee Uncategorized 0

In 2014 Henno Gous, now Dr Henno Gous, obtained his PhD qualification from the Industrial Engineering Department. We would like to congratulate him and share some of the information pertaining to his PhD. Title: Towards a reference architecture for integrated knowledge networks. Department: Department of Industrial Engineering Promoter: Prof CSL Schutte Co-promoter: Prof A Gerber Summary: Henno focussed on the engineering of integrated knowledge networks (IKNs) through the use of a reference architecture. This study seeks to gain a deeper understanding of the constructional principles underlying this class of collaborative networks. The reference architecture for IKNs is developed through design science research within a pragmatic and qualitative research strategy. It was found that the reference architecture provides constructional principles in the engineering of IKNs, thus enabling the design, operation and research of this class of collaborative networks. Congratulations once again Dr Gous!
